Over 80% of Americans want term limits for Congress, and yet neither party will touch the subject. There's a reason — and there's also a way around them.

Neither party is discussing term limits. I believe both Congress and Federal Judges should have term limits. This is frustrating since over 80% of Americans support term limits for Congress. Thanks to TermLimits.com and their success to date in getting State legislatures to support an Article 5 Convention of States, Congressional term limits may become law soon. I have proudly signed their pledge. The will of the people is being ignored.
Over 80% of Americans support term limits for Congress. Even Donald Trump has said Congress should have term limits, endorsing a constitutional amendment as part of his "drain the swamp" reforms. Every American can set their own term limits through their vote.
Many Federal Judges serve for 30-40 years, spanning generations. Changes like the Equal Rights Amendment and the Civil Rights Act influence multiple generations. What was once acceptable becomes not acceptable. Lifetime appointments can lead judges to serve beyond their prime. The judiciary can be misused, and constitutional law is often interpreted to serve political interests rather than justice.
The argument for lifetime politicians is that "they know the system, get seniority, and can get things done." Congress has not approved a budget before the year's end since 1996. The number of laws passed each year is down nearly 30% compared to 20 years ago. It now takes over 10 months to process a bill, with no guarantee it will pass. There are 36 Federal Judge openings in 2026, even though the majority of the Senate has the authority to approve nominees.
I will continue advocating for Term Limits. I will enact term limits with my votes. Everyone who believes in term limits should.
