What Makes Life Better for Americans?
Americans want three things. Improved safety. Financial security. Better health. Politicians should stop fighting and start focusing. If you are focused on everything you are focused on nothing.
Keep Safety First
When I ran a corporation we kept safety first. For Americans that means keeping us safe from attacks on America. No more Pearl Harbors. No more 911s. We want safety in our neighborhoods, our cities, and on our highways. To increase safety, we need to properly fund the military, homeland security and all levels of federal law enforcement. We need to protect the 2nd amendment. We need gun training requirements and enforced penalties for those who are untrained and use firearms to do harm.
Increase Financial Security
We need to stop devaluing the dollar by printing more dollars to cover deficit spending. To deal with Covid we printed trillions. When you use continuing resolutions for 30 years you never revisit old spending. Every year the Congress agrees to keep on spending what they have always spent, and then add new emergency big things like war and Covid.
American’s wealth is threatened online. Scammers, virtual attackers, and identity thieves need to face federal prosecution. This issue has been ignored for two decades and has cost Americans billions of dollars. We need federal laws to regulate AI. AI can be used for good or for evil. If we don’t address it by 2029, we will have major issues. That is the date when it is predicted AI will be able to break encryption. It will get access to any data protected by passwords.
We need to bolster American businesses. We need sensible regulations. When our company wanted to expand, it took longer to get permits than it took to engineer and build a building. There has to be a way to coordinate between federal agencies and state agencies. If American businesses can’t prosper, neither can Americans. Keeping manufacturing in America is strategic.
Focus On Wellness
To improve American health we need to focus on wellness and preventative care. Why do we pay for anyone who goes to the hospital, but we don’t pay to stop people from facing catastrophe. In the company I ran we gave free preventative care and free non-narcotic generic prescriptions to our employees and their families. In the first four years, our insurance costs dropped 6% while the average increase was 22%. It works. Head off disease before it gets bad. Medicaid and Medicare costs could go down dramatically if we used the same model for America. We can reduce American health costs and increase American wellness.
Safety, financial security and health. These should be the focus. The congressional record shows the priorities of 2025 for Congress based on pages submitted. 8 of the top 10 priorities were associated with the big beautiful bill. The other two were Epstein and Russian sanctions. This is a reflection of poor leadership. It is the leader’s role to insist on priorities from a list that will always be a mile long.
Lindsey Graham is in leadership. America needs new leaders in Congress. Leaders who demand focus on what matters to the majority of Americans. No wonder Congressional approval is below 14%. They are too busy listening to donors and lobbyists or flying around the world to listen to Americans.
